Broadway to remain closed until 2021

Broadway theaters in the US have been set to remain closed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Broadway has been closed since March 12 as part of measures aimed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.

The Broadway League announced on Monday that theater owners and producers will refund or exchange tickets previously purchased for all performances through to January 3 of the next year.

The League declined to specify exactly when shows will reopen, given the unpredictability of the pandemic.

“The safety of our cast, crew, orchestra and audience is our highest priority and we look forward to returning to our stages only when it’s safe to do so,” Thomas Schumacher, chairman of the board at The Broadway League, said.

The flu-like deadly virus first emerged in China in late 2019 and has now infected more than 10 million people and killed over 500,000 across the world.
